Breakfast at home
Last night I slept through for the first time since being home. Mum and Dad have been looking a little tired lately. I have also been testing them on the food front. There have been a couple of days that I just wasn’t that interested in eating anything of nutritional value – only Flings (maize crisps) held my interest. After the folks initial panic they remembered the golden rule - I’ll eat when I’m hungry - and true to form I have started eating again.
My weight has been up and down. However, I have gained weight consistently for the last two days so let’s keep our fingers crossed this will continue. I’ve had a cold since being home so have not been feeling great. We’re all looking forward to summer in South Africa.

We met a lovely family last week whose little girl of 15 months receives all her nutrition via tube feeds. She’s a very active little girl and although she doesn’t eat anything she was quite happy to feed me some Flings. I was quite hungry when they came to visit so I showed them how it’s done. I managed to gobble down a handful of Flings, a bottle of Oats and Honey puree, a bowl of cereal and some vanilla custard. I think they were impressed!
Our focus, apart from feeding me about 6 times a day, is to try help families in South Africa to tube wean their children. Mum has organized with the Professor in Austria, Marguerite Dunitz-Sheer, to come to South Africa in July next year. We’d like to set up a facility similar to that in Austria with the guidance of Professor Dunitz-Sheer. The Professor has offered to do a talk to the medical profession, train staff and hold an official play-picnic. In the interim, we’d like to set up some funding to assist parents in South Africa to go to Austria for the programme.
If anyone has any bright ideas or fabulous contacts to assist us, please feel free to leave us a message on the blog.
